And counting...

Gabe had a fun night at his prom.

**************
We can't believe that in less than 3 months Gabe will be gone to college.  Seems like every minute is precious that we have with him.  I don't want it to slip away and yet this is what we've been preparing him and us for.  It's just hard to fathom.

Well, I will be having a job interview on Tuesday.  This part time job just popped up and I've been sort of looking for something, but not really trying.  It looks like it may be a good fit.  I don't know if I'm ready to go back to work, but the timing is right.  The job looks pretty flexible and I can work around the kids schedule.  I'm not sure how serious they are and how many other candidates they have, so we'll see.  The only thing is that it'll be a little challenging with our summer schedule and trying to work around the kids' summer activities.

Prom Night

Today is Gabe's night at the prom!  How fun!  I remember when I went to my prom.  This will also be his first date.  Don't worry, they're just friends from church.

I can't believe the extent that guys will go to ask a girl out on a date.  Why didn't they do this when I was going to school?  Gabe didn't just call his friend on the phone.  He actually went over to her house and serenaded her on his violin!  Wow!  How romantic!

They should have a fun night with dinner at this really nice restaurant in South Coast Plaza.  One of the student's dad owns the restaurant so they are getting a discount on the dinner.  We asked Gabe if he could get a 90% discount off of the dinner.

He is going to bring his friend to the house before he goes to dinner.

Another one bites the dust...

Well, we said goodbye to another hamster on Saturday and said hello to a new one on Mother's Day.  I couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to get a new hamster after missing Boba for one day.  Our new hamster is a Dwarf Dalmation so he is white and black.  Right now he has two names:  Gabriel calls him "Bongo" (to go with the "B" theme of "Barney" and "Boba") and the rest of us calls him "Oreo."  I guess when Gabe goes away for college, we'll all be calling him Oreo.
**************
I can't believe that it will be about 3 months from now that Gabe will be off to Chicago for college.  Curtis and I will be taking him to Wheaton, helping him move in and going through parent orientation.  It will be a big transition for all of us and I will miss him.

Why have we gone so far down this road?...

There has been a petition going around regarding the Marriage Amendment for the California Constitution.  I finally got on the bandwagon to pass the petition around to people at church.  I usually don't pass petitions around, but when Curtis encouraged me, I thought I should take some action.  But, of course, the deadline is a couple days of way (down to the wire -- April 1).

Basically it is putting the Amendment on the November ballot.  It is sponsored by Focus on the Family and you could find more info on http://www.protectmarriage.com/

It seems like such an unnatural thing to do to have to sign something like this -- that marriage is between a man and a woman.  That is what the Bible says and marriage was instituted by God to be a holy union between man and woman and we have so abused the institution so that it has come to this.  The courts are still battling the issue from Proposition 22 of eight years ago.  The voters have already made it clear that marriage is heterosexual, so why do the homosexuals have to fight it all the way to the bitter end?

I just have to remember that the "struggle is not between flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."  (Ephesians 6:12).

The homosexuals have their agenda and they've been pushing hard through our schools, children, government, politics and they are not letting up.  They even have a "Day of Silence" on April 25 (that's been going on over the past few years) (http://www.afa.net/emails/transform.asp?x=dos_031308&s=browser&y=2008&m=03) across thousands of schools across the nation to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools.  If your school is on the list (see the link), please contact your school to let them know that your child will not attend if the "Day of Silence" is allowed.  Sometimes a simple phone call or letter to administrators may be enough to change their plans.  I know that if my kids were going to one of those schools I would explain to my child why we are doing this and take them out of school.  Sometimes, money speaks louder than a "cause."

God calls us to love the person, but not the behavior.

Work

Yes, you can say I have a "job."  I'm an on-call substitute for my kids' school.  I can work as the nurse, the receptionist, or as the middle school assistant.  They only call me when they need me such as this morning.  I've only worked in the nurse's office a couple of times.

We had a "head lice scare."  One of the kindergarteners insisted that she had head lice since it had been going around school lately.  Nobody in the office wanted to touch her.  Finally one of the teachers came to check her head and found out it wasn't head lice.  Phew!  Everybody breathe a sigh of relief!  I didn't get to close to her neither.  It was just dry skin.  When I called the nurse she said that when kids know head lice is going around they tend to get paranoid about it...

Today was a quiet day.  Not too many illnesses.  Mostly bug bites and very minor injuries.

I spent the time doing other stuff.  That's my day at work...

I got another "job" next week for 2 hours!  Woo-hoo.
